Synopsis of the Screenplay
Zariah is formatting her story artwork with the novel and creating a wonderful children’s book. Dave is assisting Zariah in getting her book published. Her novel was recently adapted into a screenplay by screenwriter Dave Josephson. “Once I started reading the novel, I could not put it down. I was completely captured by Zariah’s creation of Maile’s incredible self-realization journey. When reading the final 20 pages, the hair was standing-up on my arms! I am really excited about Zariah’s powerful story. This story can bring both the child and the adult to a much higher-level consciousness and self-understanding. The artwork that accompanies the story is incredible. It is the storyboard.” This unique creation celebrates Hawaiian culture through legend-based characters, vocabulary, and the theme that true Aloha - unconditional love - is the true magic that can heal and restore all. The screenplay will entice the audience into a magical spirit-world alive with fairies, goddesses, mermaids, dolphins, turtles, whales, birds, mystical characters and, of course, the wicked witch, Puhi. In addition, the audience will be introduced to the beautiful Hawaiian language - the words, the phrases, and their meanings. The main character, Maile, a lovely Hawaiian girl, is given a wishing spiral on her 11th birthday by her Auntie Taria. Seven years earlier, Taria met a mermaid while swimming in the Hawaiian waters. The mermaid gave Taria the pendant, instructing her to give it to Maile on her 11th birthday; but told Taria to warn Maile of the pendant's power, and to be careful until she understands it. When Maile touches the pendant, it glows blue inside, shining iridescent like a bubble floating in sunshine. Then Maile’s best friend Kai arrives at the birthday party, and gives her his favorite possession as her present, his hand-carved koa-wood surfboard. Maile is distracted by the present, and when she shows Kai the pendant, she makes a silly wish and Kai is swept away into the spirit world. And so the story begins. Maile must learn to use the wishing spiral to rescue Kai. Maile goes on an incredible self-realization journey into the spiritual world - as the fairies and goddesses keep telling Maile what she has to do to save Kai from certain death, but she just doesn’t understand. Maile’s outer conflict is inextricable from her inner one: to overcome her resistance to sharing her heart’s Aloha with all beings, even and especially those she perceives as unworthy. Dave envisions the screenplay as an animated children’s movie and television series. Contact Dave for details. |
